That’s a Wrap: A Look Back at the 2013 ASHA Convention

Dec 02, 2013 | by Kevin Self

This year at the national ASHA Convention, Lingraphica had the largest showing of new products and clinical presentations and poster sessions we have ever had. In addition to sharing our new solutions, we had many quality conversations with speech-language pathologists (SLPs). We saw some familiar faces and met some new ones, and we are thankful we did! The ASHA Convention continues to inspire us to create great products and solutions to transform the lives of people with aphasia. Below, I captured some of the highlights of the convention.

New Products & Booth Activity

Using transformation as a theme, our team debuted three new product offerings—the AllTalk speech-generating device, TalkPath Online Speech Therapy, and QuickAssess the Lingraphica Device Assessment Tool—at our national ASHA Convention booth. It quickly became apparent that if a single solution didn’t meet the needs of an SLP’s client, we had another one that did.

There was a lot of buzz about our TalkPath Online Speech Therapy. With four sets of exercises—reading, writing, speaking, and listening—SLPs and their clients can work together on a customized plan of aphasia-friendly activities on the computer. Numerous SLPs signed up for the free 30-day trial and several took home information to share with their clients.

Poster Sessions & Presentation

Lingraphica hit a home run with a total of seven poster sessions and presentations this year. Four members of the Lingraphica team presented with other SLPs and clinical partners. Together, these pairings covered social media and aphasia, apps for speech therapy, telepractice, and therapeutic benefits across various clinical settings, and more. We set the bar high with a record number of thought leadership presentations; we’re looking forward to continuing this at ASHA 2014.

Giveaway

Last but not least, we gave away a brand new Apple iPad. Kimberly, an SLP from Iowa, won this year’s grand prize giveaway. We interviewed Kimberly after she won and she had great things to say about our products and the national ASHA Convention. “I have used your apps, especially the numbers/ letters app, with some of my pediatric patients and frequently with adult patients. The love the iPad and the fact that the app shows only the mouth as it produces the target, so it limits visual distractions,” said Kimberly. “I look forward to incorporating more of your products in therapy with my patients. Thanks for developing apps that are both easy to access and functional for a variety of patients.”

Thank You

Thank you to all of the attendees that stopped by our booth, visited our ASHA poster sessions and presentations, and signed up for TalkPath Online Speech Therapy. We are always excited to meet SLPs in the field and learn about what tools they need for their practice. As we wrap up another great ASHA Convention, we look forward to 2014 with hopes of continuing to transform the lives of people with aphasia.
