Our Speech-Generating Devices: Type and Talk

If you’ve used our speech-generating devices (SGDs) before, you know that our Type and Talk window is a popular feature. In the past, the window was limited to just a sentence or a few words. With our most recent update, the window is greatly expanded and includes a much bigger character limit – almost 500 characters!

In Part 3 of our 5 part blog series, “Up Close and Personal,” we will unveil the details of Type and Talk.

Type and Talk Gets A Makeover

Do your clients have a favorite joke, catch phrase, or cheer for a sports team? Then they’ll love the new and improved text box that allows them to type and save frequently used messages.

The flexible Type and Talk setting dramatically impacts the way an individual communicates with the device. Now, the SGD truly is an extension of who they are. For example, a member of the Lingraphica Aphasia Users Group loves the Red Sox, and often speaks about going to the games with her father. Now, with just the touch of a button she is able to type the entire story of her Red Sox days and share it.

To add your favorite phrases to your device using Type and Talk, go to the purple keyboard button at the top of the screen and start typing! Notice, the new Save button! Click Save, select an appropriate icon or take a photo. Next, push the green check box and the custom phrase is added to your page. Watch the video below!
